Weekly Workouts: 9/5 - 9/11

Finishing this week equates to finishing half of my program! Yippee!

Basically, I am running two races this week! I'm excited but at the same time unimpressed by my training progress.

This Week's Workouts:

Sunday - 13.1 miles! (out of the 14 that I had swapped from this other week, creating only a 0.9 mile deficit -- read my "Race Recap" for details!

Monday - 4 mi - indoor/outdoor mix; 20 min weights
Yes, I worked out on my day off, which is abnormal for me! Determined to do what I can, when I can!

Tuesday - (just about) 7 mi - outdoors; [ planned - 20 min yoga ]
No energy. I'm starting to feel weak, a feeling that feels like it's coming from my bones, even when waking up in the morning after adequate (~8) hours of sleep. Weather was beautiful, scenery was great, and I was blah.

Starting to believe that perhaps I am anemic again. I have had been diagnosed twice with it, in 2004 when I was still eating (quite a bit of) meat and in 2007 when I basically stopped. And mine can get pretty severe, as I had to take top dose iron daily for 6 months to get it back to normal. I think that I am just naturally inclined to this but never noticed because I've usually eaten lots of sliced bread and cereal, which are often iron-fortified. Lately, I don't snack on cereal anymore for some reason, and while I still have it for dinner sometimes, it's too little. I take multi-vitamins, but according to my old doc, that's not enough. And I'm not the best in remembering to take them (which I'm trying to change!).

So I'm going to get back on the cereal train and see what happens. In the meantime, I'm going to keep plowing through as best as I can! I want to look back on this entry and compare my energy levels to see if there is an improvement.

Wednesday - 3 (of 5 mi); 10 min on upright bike; 5 min weights

Thursday - 7 mi; 20 min forward bends yoga

Friday - 10 min s. bike, 30 min strength

Saturday - 6(.2) mi - outdoors - for the Run for the Memorial 10K ] (-5 mi deficit)

Weekly Mileage: 40 (ish)

Sharkies Prize Pack (giveaway)

It's giveaway time! On a long run recently, I took a couple packs of Sharkies Organic Sports Chews  with me to keep me going on a hot day.  I got through those 15 miles  eating these, versus normal gels.  I've been opting to eat chews over gels in my running nowadays because I just find them more palatable and easier on my stomach for some reason.  Plus, they do pack a few more calories, which is a good thing in this case. I normally associate cute little chews with candy, but these actually contain natural electrolytes.  Plus, they were light to carry and very tasty, too!  Each pack is about 140 calories.  The only downside I found to the sport chews is that they stuck to my teeth a tiny bit more than my normal choices, and the packaging gave me a fight at times.  This could easily be solved by conslidating them into a baggie pre-run, or eating them BEFORE running would be much easier than during.
