There's a popular bakery in Glendale, CA called Porto's. Never could I get very far without someone mentioning their delicious pastries.
With only that information, I finally made the trek over there.
Here's the spread of the legendary pastries. Many are meat-filled (apparently, these are the ones that are considered "good." They had non-meat choices as well, but I am not a fan of pastries (Danishes and the like).
So "The Ukrainian" and I ended up splitting this tamale. I ate the corn part, away from the meat. It was moist and delicious. It wasn't until later that I realized that some non-vegetarian substances could have been in the corn part... :(
My second mistake of the day was getting this tortilla soup bowl. While it did not have chicken, it was very creamy -- suspiciously so for my dairy-intolerant self.
"The Ukrainian" got this meaty sandwich, which came with some plantain chips. I'd say those chips were the best part of the whole meal.

In my efforts to avoid meat, this was kind of a failing day for me, but I never expect to be perfect in my choices and can only hope that I can make better choices next time.
Yum! I went on Sunday and it was delicious! That soup looks AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteI've never visited Porto's but thanks to friends have tried their guava and cheese rolls, potato balls and some of their other pastries. I worry I wouldn't know what to choose if I actually went in to the bakery.
