Workplace (Treadmill) Perk

(My bar giveaway is ending pretty soon... last reminder to ENTER!)

Although I might complain about work, I must say, the environment is right.

I took these snapshots one day while waiting for "The Ukrainian" to take me on a lunchtime picnic (on his day off).

But most of the time, I'm indoors, and I could very well throw myself into the category of people who probably sits for waaaaayyyy too long during the day.  Although I've gotten better and take walks on most days during lunch, having this guy around is also helpful:

This is a treadmill workstation, which we're allowed to use for 30 minutes at a time.  After checking it out, I will say that this takes some getting used to, some decent shoes, a good split attention, and a speed no more than 2 mph.  Some handrails would have been nice, too, but a bit restricting I guess.

It sure beats sitting, although for simplicity, it'd be better if they set up our desks so we can pedal while we sit.  It might be a bit.... safer.

Do you work a desk job?  Would you use this thing?

Comments

  1. Treadmill work station! I love the idea! 2 miles an hour sounds a bit painful, but it definitely beats sitting at a desk all day.

  2. Since I can barely walk/run on a regular treadmill I know I could never do this while working.

We got exercise ball chairs for our office though which is a nice change. They keep you moving around more and it's harder to slump over.

  3. Interesting. A few years back I had a client that was essentially a telephone boiler room business (selling dreams as I called it). Bottom line is that *all* the workstations were standup workstations. They really believed that their phone marketers couldn't project enthusiasm if they were hunkered down in a chair at a desk! Imagine - 100 people standing around all talking into their headsets!

  4. I had never thought of stationary bike-type exercise at work. I did some Googling and found this:

How cool! I don't have a desk job, but this might be cool for watching tv or reading. At work, I might be worried about sweating? Great idea though!

  5. If I had something like that, I might just end up in the hospital, even at 1mph. lol. I would try and use it though. Allbeit I do have an office, I have the chance to go out and walk when ever I feel up to it all day. What is the max speed on it?

  6. Oh my gosh! Such a fantastic idea. I would love one of these in my office. Sitting for 8+ hours a day has really done a number on my back. I try to get up to go for a quick 1/2 mile walk around the block at lunch time, but I'm not super consistent. I think I would love that!

  7. I'm not sure what to make of the work station treadmill. A cool idea to get people moving but is it really an effective workout? I would probably stay off of it and wait to go to run at the gym.

How are you doing by the way? I just figured out how to comment on your blog. :-D Hope all is well with you!

Rebecca Michaels Performance Clothing (Giveaway)

UPDATE: 6/21/12 -- This giveaway is closed, and the winner is #43, Jacqueline!!  I will contact you, but if you miss it, please e-mail me! ------ I'd like to credit in advance "The Ukrainian" who helped me stage some photos for this post. =) Perhaps because I don't dress well when working out, I was offered the opportunity to try some fun pieces from the Rebecca Michaels summer collection. Since I complained about my issues with headbands staying on my head, I also got to try their Violet Love headbands.  "The Ukrainian" didn't hesitate in throwing one on, and I think he said he looks like Rambo in it. Anyway, I'll start with my experience with the headbands .  They are very soft and actually look SUPER cute on!  They also cover a large portion of the top of your head, so those little fly-aways don't come drooping down.  Or is that just me?  My hair is normally cut in layers, so I do experience this quite a bit. Unfortun...

Sharkies Prize Pack (giveaway)

It's giveaway time! On a long run recently, I took a couple packs of Sharkies Organic Sports Chews  with me to keep me going on a hot day.  I got through those 15 miles  eating these, versus normal gels.  I've been opting to eat chews over gels in my running nowadays because I just find them more palatable and easier on my stomach for some reason.  Plus, they do pack a few more calories, which is a good thing in this case. I normally associate cute little chews with candy, but these actually contain natural electrolytes.  Plus, they were light to carry and very tasty, too!  Each pack is about 140 calories.  The only downside I found to the sport chews is that they stuck to my teeth a tiny bit more than my normal choices, and the packaging gave me a fight at times.  This could easily be solved by conslidating them into a baggie pre-run, or eating them BEFORE running would be much easier than during.
