Synergy Kombucha

One of my peers in HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) is on break (out of the country -- major jealousy here) for the next two weeks, which scares the heck out of me.  I perform some of the things he does, but he's like a Jedi Master that I like knowing is somewhere in case I need him.

Oh, the stresses of Corporate America.

I'm sure it will be no different from normal, when he's so busy that people often cannot reach him.

So yeah, I can relax.  Breathe.  Drink a kombucha.

What's kombucha?  Unless you don't read any other blogs of this genre, you've probably already heard about this fermented tea beverage.  I didn't try any for a long time because when I was first aware of its presence (maybe a year ago?), it was banned from Whole Foods for its small alcohol content.

And then, it came back.

At ~$3.79 per bottle, my second hesitation arose.  But I'm glad I finally succumbed to one, because it is VERY refreshing!

Pros:
- Refreshing and fizzy/bubbly each time you open the bottle, even if it's been awhile!
- Comes in many brands and flavors, though I've only tried Synergy so far.  When I'm less poor, I will try more flavors.
- Contains prebiotics to help with digestion and overall health.
- Comes in a hefty, hip glass bottle.

Cons:
- Don't be like me and open your first-ever kombucha while driving!
- Comes with icky stuff at the bottom that does the fermenting, so if you're turned off by the thought of drinking that (like me), don't shake this beverage.
- The cost, though it takes me a week to go through a bottle for some reason.
- Some people claim it tastes bad.  Sure, it's a little strange at first, but I would hardly agree that it tastes like socks. ;)

  1. I've found that people either love kombucha or hate it. I'm in the love camp...although it gives me a buzz!

  2. That is pretty expensive. I think the price alone would turn me off. I'm a cheap-o.

  3. I don't like the synergy. But there is a chai flavor that is fantastic. It tastes like autumn in a bottle.

  4. Oh I've been wanting to try kombucha! I"m with you though - the stuff on the bottom would not be for me. Glad to hear that another healthy blogger likes the stuff though. I may just pick up a bottle. Also, glad to see that your marathon running is going well :)

  6. Ironic that people won't drink lam Ochs because of the fact that it's fermented huh? They don't seem to have trouble with beer!

Sharkies Prize Pack (giveaway)

It's giveaway time! On a long run recently, I took a couple packs of Sharkies Organic Sports Chews  with me to keep me going on a hot day.  I got through those 15 miles  eating these, versus normal gels.  I've been opting to eat chews over gels in my running nowadays because I just find them more palatable and easier on my stomach for some reason.  Plus, they do pack a few more calories, which is a good thing in this case. I normally associate cute little chews with candy, but these actually contain natural electrolytes.  Plus, they were light to carry and very tasty, too!  Each pack is about 140 calories.  The only downside I found to the sport chews is that they stuck to my teeth a tiny bit more than my normal choices, and the packaging gave me a fight at times.  This could easily be solved by conslidating them into a baggie pre-run, or eating them BEFORE running would be much easier than during. Want to win the prize pack below?  It comes with these Sport Chews, a neat

Rebecca Michaels Performance Clothing (Giveaway)

UPDATE: 6/21/12 -- This giveaway is closed, and the winner is #43, Jacqueline!!  I will contact you, but if you miss it, please e-mail me! ------ I'd like to credit in advance "The Ukrainian" who helped me stage some photos for this post. =) Perhaps because I don't dress well when working out, I was offered the opportunity to try some fun pieces from the Rebecca Michaels summer collection. Since I complained about my issues with headbands staying on my head, I also got to try their Violet Love headbands.  "The Ukrainian" didn't hesitate in throwing one on, and I think he said he looks like Rambo in it. Anyway, I'll start with my experience with the headbands .  They are very soft and actually look SUPER cute on!  They also cover a large portion of the top of your head, so those little fly-aways don't come drooping down.  Or is that just me?  My hair is normally cut in layers, so I do experience this quite a bit. Unfortun
